What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy was created by Dr.Pistor in France in the 1950's, where it is practiced today by over 15,000 physicians. It consists of the delivery of small quantities of a mixture of medications to an affected area of the body using microinjections. The practical uses in France are in sports medicine, for the rapid repair of injuries, and in cosmetic medicine, for hair growth and the elimination of cellulite. Its application in the U.S. is mainly for spot weight reduction and the elimination of cellulite.
The principle behind its use is that a combination of different medications administered in a specific area will have an effect at that site and not affect the system as a whole. We know that fat cells have on their cell membranes both alpha and beta receptors. The alpha receptors facilitate the deposition of fat into the cell and the beta receptors aid in emptying the cell, resulting in weight loss.
Mesotherapy Injections
Multiple microinjections are given in the cellulitic areas very rapidly, each distributing in the meso layer, right below the skin a minute quantity of medication.
The injections themselves are not painful because the tiny size of the needle and the force and rapidity whith which they are injected.
Mesotherapy Side Effects
Bruising could occur in a few injection sites, but it resolves by the next session.
Redness and mild swelling of the area treated could occur and usually resolves in 24 hours.
Allergic reactions could occur if the patient is sensitive to any medication used.
